Depression - (topographical definition) is indicated by special contour lines called depression. Causes of depression are emptied lakes and volcanic craters.
Before depression are lakes or lava. Water and fire, cold and hot.
Then depression. Empty holes that wouldn't be missed from an aerial shot.
